Mahesh: The bank has at last sanctioned me the loan, and I am going ahead with my plans to build a house. All thanks to you.

(చివరికి బ్యాంక్ నాకు రుణం మంజూరు చేసింది, నేను ఇల్లు కట్టడం ప్రారంభిస్తున్నాను. దీనికి నీకు చాలా ధన్యవాదాలు)

Kapil: I only wish you should complete it soon. You took quite long for you to make up your mind to go far a loan. If only you had let me know earlier...

(నువ్వు ఇంటిని త్వరగా పూర్తి చేయాలని నా కోరిక. అప్పు తీసుకోవాలని నిర్ణయించుకోవడానికి నీకు చాలా సమయం పట్టింది. నీకు అప్పు కావాలని ముందే నాతో చెప్పుంటే...)

Mahesh: But when the bank at first denied me the loan, I nearly broke down. You came to my rescue. Thanks again.

(మొదట నాకు bank అప్పు తిరస్కరించినప్పుడు, దాదాపు ఏడుపొచ్చినంత పనైంది. మళ్లీ నీకు thanks)

Kapil: Don't say it again. I can certainly lend a hand further if you need it.

(మళ్లీ మళ్లీ ఆ మాటనకు. నీకు అవసరమైతే, ఇంకా కూడా సాయం చేయగలను)

Mahesh: I know I can certainly bank on you, but I don't feel like troubling you any more.

(నీ మీద ఆధారపడొచ్చని నాకు తెలుసు, కానీ నిన్ను మళ్లీ శ్రమ పెట్టాలన్పించడం లేదు)

Kapil: Ok. We've had enough of it all. Lets call it a day.

(మనం అనుకుంటున్నదిక చాలు. ఇక్కడ ఆపేద్దాం)

Mahesh: I am going to the purohit to fix an auspicious time for begining the work on the house. How about going with me?

Kapil: I have other things to attend to. I will meet you again. Call me whenever you need my help.

(నాకు చూసుకోవాల్సిన పనులు వేరే ఉన్నాయి. మళ్లీ కలుసుకుందాం. నా సాయం కావాల్సి వచ్చినప్పుడు, నాకు Phone చేయి)

Notes: 1. Take quite long = చాలాకాలం పట్టడం. How long...? = ఎంతసేపు?

Look at the following phrases and idioms from the conversaton above:

1) I am going ahead with my plans. (Phrase - go ahead with)

2) You took quite long to make up your mind (Idiom: make up one's mind)

3) You came to my rescue (Phrase - go to somebody's rescue)

4) I know I can certainly bank on you (Phrase - to bank on somebody/ something)

5) Let's call it a day (Idiom: call it a day)

6) I have other things to attend to (Phrase: to attend to)

Let's now discuss the meanings and use of the phrases and idioms above one by one.

1) To go ahead with something = to start doing something. (దేన్నైనా ప్రారంభించడం)

    a) Rekha: The minister hasn't yet came, and we are already half an hour late. What shall we do?

    (మంత్రి గారేమో రాలేదు, మనమేమో అరగంట ఆలస్యం చేశాం. ఏం చేద్దాం?)

దీనికి సంబంధించిందే మరో idiom: give the go ahead = ప్రారంభించేందుకు అనుమతి.

The principal has given the go ahead for the cultural events = సాంస్కృతిక ఉత్సవాలకు, ప్రిన్సిపల్ అనుమతి ఇచ్చారు.

2) Make up one's mind = decide = నిర్ణయించుకోవడం.

ఇంకా నిర్ణయించుకోలేదు. - MBA నా, MCA నా అని రెండింటిలో ఏదీ తేల్చుకోలేకపోతున్నాను.

(In two minds = Not to be able to choose between two things = రెండింటిలో ఏదో తేల్చుకోలేకపోవడం. She is in two minds = she is not able to make up her mind.)

రెండింటిలో ఏది చేద్దామా అని ఆమె నిర్ణయించుకోలేకపోతోంది.

She is in two minds - whether to get married or to take a job - పెళ్లి చేసుకోవాలా లేదా ఉద్యోగం చేయాలా అని తేల్చుకోలేకపోతుంది.

3) To somebody's rescue: ఒకర్ని ఆదుకోవడం. అవసర సమయాల్లో, ప్రమాదాల్లో ఉన్నప్పుడు ఎక్కువగా come to somebody's rescue అని వాడుతుంటాం.
