Run across... Bank on

Run across, Bank on

Sundaram: Have you seen our friend Ramarao of late? He is not well. Have you seen him of late?

Jayavanth: No. It is long since I met him. I have not seen him in the recent past. How is he now? Anything wrong with him?

Sundaram: He is down with paralysis. You had better go and see him.

Jayavanth: He is not well at all. You had better see him as soon as you can. He is not able to talk at all.

Sundaram: I ran across him a year ago. He was quite fine by then. I don't know how he got this disease. What do the doctors say?

Jayavanth: They say he might recover if he has the will. He is expressing the desire to die.

Sundaram: By chance I ran into our friend Jayadev last night. He is quite hale and hearty. I told him of Ramarao's position and he said he would go and see him. He expressed his pity for Ramarao.

Jayavanth: The doctors are still trying to bank on their medicines to make Ramarao recover. But their efforts are not bearing fruit.

Look at the following words from the conversation:

1) Ran across = The past tense of Run across = Meet by chance (అనుకోకుండా కలుసుకోవటం)

Jayasurya: Have you met our friend Narasimham of late? His health is not good and he is not in a position to move out.

Jagadish: What is wrong with him? The doctors say he must have the will to walk about or else he might lie in bed. I ran across him yesterday as he was taking a walk.

2) Bank on = Depend on (ఆధారపడటం)

Surendra: Why do you always depend on your friend Rahul? Can't you do anything independently?

Sekhar: Who said I was banking on him? It is only in this matter that I am banking on him. Otherwise I can do things independently on my own.
