As goods as, be level

Bhargav: Hi Anushka, which movie do you wants to go to? 'Dammunda' or 'Neninthe'? (హాయ్! అనుష్కా! ఏ సినిమాకి వెళ్లాలనుకుంటున్నావు, 'దమ్ముందాకా? 'నేనింతేకా?)
Anushka: I am unable to decide. One is as good as the other, Bhanu says. (అదే నేను తేల్చుకోలేకపోతున్నాను. ఏదీ మరోదానికి తీసిపోదని భాను అంటున్నాడు.)

Bhargav: So they rival each other. What are we going to do then? (అవి ఒకదాంతో ఒకటి పోటీపడుతున్నాయన్నమాట. ఏం చేద్దాం అయితే?)
Anushka: Let's see both, one after another. We shall see "Dammunda" first today, and  "Neninthe" tomorrow. (రెండింటినీ చూద్దాం, అయితే మొదట, అంటే ఈ రోజు "దమ్ముందా" చూద్దాం, రేపు "నేనింతే" చూద్దాం.)
Bhargav: That's a nice suggestion. Let's have some coffee first. (ఆ సూచన బాగుంది. ముందు మనం కాస్త కాఫీ తాగుదాం.)

Anushka: Oh Bhargav, you take too much coffee. Cut down on it. (ఓహ్! భార్గవ్ నువ్వు కాఫీ మరీ ఎక్కువ తీసుకుంటున్నావు. తగ్గించు.)
Bhargav: Are you any better than me? If I am a coffee addict, you are a tea addict. In being addicts, we are level, aren't we?
(నువ్వు నాకంటే ఏం మెరుగు? నేను కాఫీకి అలవాటుపడితే, నువ్వు టీకి అలవాటు పడ్డావు. అలవాటన్న విషయంలో మనం సమానం కదా?)
Anushka: How is that? Experts say that tea isn't so harmful as coffee. (అదెలా?కాఫీ కంటే టీ తక్కువ హానికరమంటారు నిపుణులు.)
Bhargav: I am sure, experts or no experts, that there is nothing to choose between the two. (నిపుణుల అభిప్రాయం అటుంచి, రెండింటికీ పెద్ద తేడా లేదు.)
Anushka: Oh, isn't there? So let it be ok. I am not for arguing on such silly matters. (లేదా? అలాగే కానీ. సరే. ఇలాంటి చిన్నచిన్న విషయాల్లో వాదించడం అంటే నాకు ఇష్టం ఉండదు.)
Bhargav: Coming back to the two movies we wish to see, what do you think, makes them evenly matched? (మళ్లీ ఆ రెండు సినిమాల విషయానికొస్తే, ఎందువల్ల ఆ రెండూ అంత సమానమంటావు?)
Anushka: The one has a good story base, and music, and the other has good technical values. In the race for popularity they are perhaps too close to call.
(ఒక దాంట్లోనేమో మంచి కథాంశం, సంగీతం; రెండో దాంట్లోనేమో గొప్ప సాంకేతిక విలువలు ఉన్నాయి. ప్రజాదరణ పొందే పందెంలో ఏది ముందుంటుందో చెప్పలేం.)
Bhargav: So they are evenly matched. But Anushka, I'm afraid we are wasting too much of our time on movies; don't you think so? Are we turning away from our studies? (మనం సినిమాలకి ఎక్కువ సమయం వృథా చేస్తున్నామని అనిపిస్తోంది, ఏమంటావు? చదువు మీద నుంచి దృష్టి మళ్లిస్తున్నామంటావా?)
Anushka: I think so too. We should learn to strike a balance between entertainment and studies. (నాకూ అలాగే అనిపిస్తోంది. వినోదం, విద్య విషయంలో మనం సమతౌల్యం పాటించాలి.)

1. As good as = two persons/ things being equally good/ equal = ఇద్దరు వ్యక్తులు/ రెండు వస్తువులు సమానంగా ఉండటం. a) Any course is as good as another if only you do it well. (ఏ course అయినా ఒకటే, బాగా చదివితే)

2. Rival = పోటీదారుడు/ సరిసమానం కావడం  a) China is India's rival in software exports. (Software ఎగుమతుల్లో భారత్‌కు పోటీ చైనా.)  b) Pakisthan and India are cricketing rivals. (భారత్, పాక్ cricket లో ప్రత్యర్థులు.)

10b) This hotel is as good as the one on the other street, only not so expensive
(ఆ వీధిలో ఉన్న hotel, ఈ hotel సమానమే, అయితే ఇది దానంత ఖరీదు కాదు.)

As good as ని దాదాపు అనే అర్థంతో కూడా వాడతాం.

(ఆ విషయం దాదాపు తీర్మానమైనట్లే.)

(ఆ పాము దాదాపు చనిపోయినట్లే.)

(ఆ డబ్బు దాదాపు పోయినట్లే. ఇక దాన్ని మర్చిపో.)

3. be level = సమానమవడం (ముఖ్యంగా ఘనతలో)  a) With each team scoring two goals, the points are level (ఇరు జట్లూ, చెరో రెండు గోల్స్ చేయడంతో, score సమానమైంది.) b) India and Indonesia are level in corruption. (భారత్, ఇండోనేషియా అవినీతి విషయంలో సరిసమానం.)

4. ... Nothing to choose between = దొందుదొందే (రెంటికీ పెద్ద తేడా లేదు, ముఖ్యంగా చెడు విషయంలో, వాటిలో ఒకటి తక్కువ, ఇంకోటి ఎక్కువ అనేది లేదు.) a) There is nothing to choose between Duryodhana and Sakuni. (దుర్మార్గంలో దుర్యోధనుడూ, శకునీ సమానమే. వాళ్లిద్దర్లో ఎవరు మంచో చెప్పలేం.) b) There's nothing to chose between a fly and a mosquito. (ఈగ కావాలా, దోమ కావాలా అంటే ఏమంటాం?)

5. Evenly matched = level. సమ ఉజ్జీలుగా ఉండటం/ సరిసమానం కావడం. a) She is unable to choose between the two jobs. The prospects are evenly matched. (ఆ రెండు ఉద్యోగాల్లో ఏది ఎంచుకోవాలో ఆమె నిర్ణయించుకో లేకుండా ఉంది. ఆ రెంటి భవిష్యత్తులు సరిసమానంగా ఉన్నాయి/ ఆ రెంటి మంచి చెడులూ ఒకే విధంగా/ సరిసమానంగా ఉన్నాయి.) b) At this stage it is difficult to say which team will win. They are evenly matched. (ఈ దశలో ఏ జట్టు నెగ్గుతుందనేది కచ్చితంగా చెప్పడం కష్టం. రెండూ సరిసమానంగా ఉన్నాయి.)

6. be too close = గెలుపు ఓటములకు అంత తేడా లేని పరిస్థితి. a) The two candidates are neck and neck. They are too close. (ఆ ఇద్దరు అభ్యర్థుల్లో ఎవరు గెలుస్తారనేది చెప్పలేని విషయం. గెలుపు అవకాశాల్లో తేడా చాలా స్వల్పం.) b) I think the race is going to be close. [ఆ పందెంలో గెలుపు ఓటముల తేడా చాలా స్వల్పంగా ఉంటుంది. (ఎవరు గెలుస్తారనేది చెప్పడం చాలా కష్టం.)]

7) To strike a balance = సమతౌల్యం పాటించడం/ సమ ప్రాముఖ్యం ఇవ్వడం.  a) A good teacher strikes a balance between strictness and being sympathetic towards their students. (మంచి ఉపాధ్యాయుడు తన విద్యార్థుల పట్ల కాఠిన్యత, సానుభూతి విషయాల్లో సమతౌల్యం (దేనికివ్వాల్సిన ప్రాముఖ్యం దానికివ్వడం) పాటిస్తాడు.)  b) You should strike a balance between work and leisure. (పనికి విశ్రాంతికి, దేనికి తగ్గ ప్రాముఖ్యం దానికివ్వాలి.)  c) We should strike a balance between privatisation and state ownership. (ప్రైవేటీకరణకు, ప్రభుత్వ నిర్వహణకూ మధ్య సమతౌల్యం పాటించాలి. దేనికివ్వాల్సిన ప్రాధాన్యం దాని కివ్వాలి.)
