ఇంతకుముందు మనం, "Big" (అంటే పెద్ద/ ఎక్కువ/ చాలా)తో పాటు అదే అర్థాలున్న అనేక ఇతర పదాల గురించి తెలుసుకున్నాం... ఇప్పుడు "Small" (చిన్న/ తక్కువైన/ కొద్ది) అనే అర్థం వచ్చే పదాల గురించి తెలుసుకుందాం...
1) Small - చిన్న /చిన్నదైన.
A small house/ a small car/ a small box etc., (చిన్న ఇల్లు/ కారు/ పెట్టె మొదలైనవి)
"Small"ను వయసులో చిన్న అనే అర్థంతో కూడా వాడతాం
Small = Young
1) He has two small children.
2) My dad showed me all these places when I was small.
(మా నాన్న నా చిన్నతనంలోనే నాకు ఈ ప్రదేశాలన్నింటినీ చూపించారు.)
3) Small కు మరో అర్థం: ప్రాముఖ్యం లేని.
They often quarrel over small matters = వాళ్లు తరచూ చిన్న చిన్న (ప్రాముఖ్యంలేని) విషయాలపై గొడవలు పడుతుంటారు.
a) Ananth:Without your permission he has made a few changes in the arrangements.
(అతడు నీ అనుమతి లేకుండా ఏర్పాట్లలో కొన్ని మార్పులు చేశాడు)
Sajjan: I've seen them. They are small. Let's not worry about such small matters.
(నేను వాటిని చూశాను. అవి చాలా చిన్నవి. అలాంటి చిన్న చిన్న/ ప్రాముఖ్యం లేని విషయాలను పట్టించుకోవద్దు.)
2) Cramped - ఇది కూడా small కు సంబంధించిందే. అయితే దీన్ని ఎల్లప్పుడూ చాలా చిన్నదై ఇరుకుగా ఉండే స్థలానికి వాడతాం = A room/ space/ vehicle without enough space for people to move about freely.
a) Balu: Why did you get off the bus before your bus stop?
(నీ బస్ స్టాప్ రాకముందే, ఆ బస్ నుంచి ఎందుకు దిగిపోయావు?)
Sumanth: I could not bear even to stand in that cramped bus.
(ఆ ఇరుకు (రద్దీ ఎక్కువగా ఉన్న) బస్‌లో నిలబడటాన్ని కూడా భరించలేకపోయాను.)
b) He resigned from his job because he could not work in that cramped office.
(చాలా ఇరుగ్గా ఉండే ఆ ఆఫీస్‌లో పనిచేయలేక ఉద్యోగం వదిలేశాడతడు.)
3) Compact: Small but comfortable and convenient because the space has been used effectively
a) We are happy about the flat - small but compact - best for the two of us and suits our pocket = ఈ flat విషయంలో మేం చాలా సంతోషంగా ఉన్నాం. అది చిన్నదైనా సౌకర్యంగా ఉంది. మాలాంటి ఇద్దరికి అది ఉత్తమమైంది, మా స్థితికి తగింది. = ఇల్లు/ గదిలాంటివి చిన్నదైనప్పటికీ సౌకర్యంగా ఉండేది, స్థలం అమరికగా/ సరైనవిధంగా ఏర్పరచడం వల్ల.
b) The lab is compact, providing the needed facilities within the limited area.
(పరిమితమైన స్థలంలో అవసరమైన వసతులతో ఆ ప్రయోగశాల చాలా సౌకర్యంగా ఉంది.)
సౌకర్యంగా, మనం ఎక్కడికంటే అక్కడికి తీసుకు వెళ్లేందుకు వీలుగా ఉన్న వస్తువులను కూడా Compact అంటాం. A compact camera, a compact computer, a compact TV etc.
4) Tiny (Pronunce: taini) = Very small in size/ quantity = పరిమాణం/ మొత్తం (డబ్బులాంటివి) చాలా చిన్న/ తక్కువ అనే అర్థంతో వాడతాం.
a) The Buddhists form a tiny minority of our population.
(మన జనాభాలో బౌద్ధులు మరీ అల్ప సంఖ్యాకులు.)
b) He left the job because he was paid a tiny amount as salary.
(జీతం చాలా తక్కువగా ఉన్నందువల్ల అతడు ఉద్యోగం వదిలేశాడు.)
c) The tiny fingers of the baby are very tender.
(ఆ బిడ్డ చిన్నిచిన్ని వేళ్లు సున్నితంగా ఉన్నాయి)

5) Low = Very small quantity/ amount (తక్కువ మొత్తం) అయితే ఇవి ముఖ్యంగా ధరలకు, వేతనాలకు, నీరు లేదా ఇతర ద్రవాల మట్టం (level)ను తెలపడానికి వాడతాం, అవి ఉండాల్సిన దానికంటే తక్కువగా ఉంటే.
a) This is the right time to buy a car because the prices are low.
(ప్రస్తుతం ధరలు తక్కువగా ఉన్నాయి. కారు కొనేందుకు ఇదే సరైన సమయం.)
b) The water levels in the dams are low and hence the power shortage.
(డ్యామ్‌లలో నీటి మట్టం ఉండాల్సిన దానికంటే తక్కువగా ఉండటంతో విద్యుత్ కొరత ఏర్పడింది.)
Low wages/ salaries/ pay అని కూడా అంటాం.
6) Minor = తక్కువ ప్రాముఖ్యమున్న/ ప్రాముఖ్యం లేని = Not so important = Small.
a) They are some changes, but they are minor - need not worry = కొన్ని మార్పులున్నాయి, కానీ అవి అంత ప్రాముఖ్యం లేనివి/ చిన్న చిన్నవి - మనం ఆందోళన పడాల్సిన అవసరం లేనివి.
b) She fell off the stairs, but she suffered only minor injuries = ఆమె మెట్ల మీద నుంచి పడిపోయింది, కానీ చిన్న చిన్న గాయాలే అయ్యాయి.
c) The movie is good except for a few minor defects = కొన్ని చిన్న చిన్న పొరపాట్లను మినహాయిస్తే, ఆ సినిమా బాగుంది.
7) Slight = Small/ unimportant = స్వల్పమైన/ చిన్నదైన. (Minor/ small వాడవచ్చు.)
a) His condition has improved only slightly/ There has been only a slight improvement in his condition, says the doctor = అతడి పరిస్థితిలో చాలా స్వల్పమైన మెరుగు ఉంది/ చాలా స్వల్పంగా మెరుగైంది అని డాక్టరు చెప్పారు.
b) The police do not have the slightest idea of the planters of the bomb.
(ఆ బాంబ్ అక్కడెవరు పెట్టారనే విషయంలో పోలీసులకు కొంచెం కూడా బోధపడటంలేదు.)
c) His knowledge of the subject is slight.
(అతడికి ఆ విషయం గురించి తెలిసింది తక్కువ. ఇదే అర్థంతో little అని కూడా వాడతాం. అయితే little వాడటంలో చాలా జాగ్రత్త అవసరం. Little అంటే దాదాపుగా ఏమీలేదనే అర్థం.) - లాంటివి కూడా వాడవచ్చు.) 
He has little respect for elders.
(పెద్దలపట్ల అతడికి గౌరవం దాదాపుగా లేదు.)

I have still a little respect for you. Don't lose it = నువ్వంటే నాకు ఇంకా కొద్దిగా గౌరవం ఉంది. దాన్ని పోగొట్టుకోకు.

She has a little money = కొద్దిగా ఉంది
The little = ఉన్న ఆ కాస్త
I lost the little money I had had = నా దగ్గర ఉన్న ఆ కాస్త డబ్బూ పోగొట్టుకున్నాను.
అయితే little కు చిన్న అనే అర్థం కూడా ఉంది కదా! ఆ అర్థంతో small, little (a little అక్కరలేదు) ఒకటే.

a) The little house they live in is beautiful = వాళ్లుండే చిన్న ఇల్లు అందంగా ఉంటుంది.
8) Minute (Pronunce - mainyut మైన్యూట్) = Very very small = సూక్ష్మమైన/ చాలా చిన్నదిగా ఉన్న. దీనికీ minute (మినిట్ = నిమిషం) కూ spelling
a) There were minute traces of the poison were found in the patient's blood.
(రోగి రక్తంలో అతిసూక్ష్మమైన విషపు ఛాయలున్నాయి.)
b) The substance is so poisonous that even minute dose of it can kill a person.
(అతి తక్కువ మోతాదులో కూడా ఆ పదార్థం మనిషిని చంపగలదు (అది అంత విషపూరితమైంది))
c) He is a great director because he pays attention even to minute detail.
(అతి చిన్న విషయంలోనూ ఎంతో శ్రద్ధ చూపిస్తాడు కాబట్టి అతడు అంత గొప్ప దర్శకుడు.)
d) The microscope can show even minute organs.
(అతిసూక్ష్మమైన జీవులను కూడా ఆ సూక్ష్మదర్శిని చూపగలదు.) ఒకటే, కానీ అర్థంలో తేడా ఉంటుంది.
