A, An, The లను Articles అంటారు. వీటినే Demonstrative Adjectives అనీ అంటారు.
A, An లను Indefinite Articles అంటారు. ఎందుకంటే, ఇవి నిర్దిష్ట వ్యక్తినిగాని వస్తువునుగాని సూచించవు.
e.g.: A boy came for you this morning
('some boy' ఎవరో ఒక బాలుడు)
'The' ని Definite Article అంటారు. ఎందుకంటే ఇది నిర్దిష్ట వ్యక్తినిగాని, వస్తువునుగాని సూచిస్తుంది.
The boy who is sitting next to you is my son
('The boy' ఒక నిర్దిష్ట బాలుడు)
A, An లను సాధారణంగా లెక్కించదగిన సాధారణ నామవాచకాల (Singular countable common nouns)
ముందు ఉపయోగిస్తారు.
'The' ని Singular, Plural, Countable, Uncountable nouns ముందు కూడా ఉపయోగించవచ్చు.
A, An లను సాధారణంగా ఏదైనా (any)/ ఒక (one) అనే అర్థంలో ఉపయోగిస్తారు.
'The' ని 'that' అనే అర్థంలో ఉపయోగిస్తారు.
e.g.: A dog bit him yesterday. (Some dog)
The dog that bit him yesterday was a mad dog. (That dog)
The difference between A and An.
'An' is used before a word beginning with a owel sound. A is used before a word beginning
with a consonant sound.
అచ్చు శబ్దాలతో ప్రారంభమయ్యే పదాల ముందు 'An', హల్లు శబ్దాలతో ప్రారంభమయ్యే పదాల ముందు 'A'
ఉపయోగించాలి.

Important Notes:
1. ఏదైనా పదం 'h' తో ప్రారంభమై ఆ 'h' గనుక silent అయితే ఆ పదం ముందు 'an' ఉపయోగించాలి.
e.g.: an hour - an honest - an honourable
2. ఏదైనా పదం 'u' తోగాని 'eu' తోగాని ప్రారంభమై యూ (yoo) అనే శబ్దాన్నిగాని; 'o' తో ప్రారంభమై
'వ' (va) అనే శబ్దాన్నిగాని ఇస్తే దానిముందు 'A' అనే article ఉపయోగించాలి.

3. అచ్చు శబ్దాలతో ప్రారంభమయ్యే abbreviations ముందు 'an' ఉపయోగించాలి.

The use of A/ An
1. In the sense of a certain ('ఏదో ఒక' అనే అర్థంతో)
A man come to meet my dad yesterday.
One day a beggar came to my door.
2. In the numerical sense of 'one' ('ఒక' అనే అర్థంలో)
Twelve inches make a foot.
Not a word was said.
She needs a one hundred rupee note.
3. To represent a class (ఒక వర్గాన్ని తెలియజేయడానికి)
A dog is a faithful animal (A dog means all dogs)
A pupil should obey his teacher (A pupil means all pupil)
4. In the sense of every/ at the rate of (ప్రతి/ చొప్పున అనే అర్థాలతో)
He earns Rs.1000/- a month
I bought oranges at Rs.50 a dozen
5. in exclamatory sentences (ఆశ్చర్యార్థక వాక్యాలలో)
What a lovely girl she is!
What an excellent idea!
6. Before the name of a profession/ trade/ occupation (వృత్తి, వ్యాపారాల ముందు)
She is a teacher
He is a business man
Use of the definite article 'The'.
Rule No.1: When we speak of a particular person/ thing (నిర్దిష్ట వ్యక్తి గురించిగాని వస్తువు గురించిగాని మాట్లాడేటప్పుడు)
e.g.: Please call the man who is waiting out side
Turn off the tap, you are wasting water.
Rule No.2: Before unique things (ఒకే ఒక్కటి ఉండేవి)

OMISSION OF ARTICLES
Rule No 1: No article is used before the names of persons and places (Proper nouns)( వ్యక్తులు, స్థలాల పేర్ల ముందు Article వాడకూడదు.)

Rule No 2: No article is used before material nouns ( Gold, Silver, Water, Oil etc) and abstract nouns (Knowledge, wisdom, honesty etc) are used in general sense. However 'the' can be used when they are used in particular sense (Material nouns, abstract nouns ని సాధారణ అర్థంలో ఉపయోగించినప్పుడు article ఉపయోగించరాదు. కాని ప్రత్యేక అర్థంలో ఉపయోగించినప్పుడు The ని ఉపయోగించవచ్చు.)

2. Don't drink the water in that pot, it is very dirty.

Rule No 3: No article is used before the names of games, meals, days, months, seasons, languages.
e.g.: 1. × --- Cricket is a popular game
2. × --- lunch is ready
3. × --- spring is a beautiful season
4. × --- English is a global language
5. × --- Sunday is a holiday
Rule No 4: No article is used before the places like school, college, university, temple, church, hospital, prison etc when they are used for primary purpose, however 'the' can be used when they are used for any other purpose (School, College, Temple, Hospital లాంటి స్థలాలను ప్రధాన ఉద్దేశం కోసం ఉపయోగించినప్పుడు article వాడకూడదు. వేరే ఉద్దేశం కోసం ఉపయోగించినప్పుడు The ని వాడవచ్చు.)

Ans: 4. Explanation: ఇక్కడ gold అన్నది material noun అవుతుంది Material nouns ని general sense లో ఉపయోగించినప్పుడు article రాకూడదని నేర్చుకున్నాం. కాబట్టి '4 మాత్రమే సరైన సమాధానం అవుతుంది.
