WORLD PUBLIC SERVICE DAY OBSERVED ON..

National
SATYABHAMA portal

    To promote research and development in the mining and minerals sector, Union Minister for Coal, Mines and Parliamentary Affairs Pralhad Joshi launched SATYABHAMA (Science and Technology Yojana for Aatmanirbhar Bharat in Mining Advancement) Portal for Science and Technology Programme Scheme on 15 June 2020.
    SATYABHAMA Portal allows online submission of project proposals along with monitoring of the projects and utilization of funds/grants. 
    The researchers can also submit progress reports and final technical reports of the projects in the electronic format in the portal. The minister requested the scientists and researchers in the mining and mineral sector to undertake qualitative and innovative research and development work for 'AatmaNirbhar Bharat'.

 

YUKTI 2.0
    “YUKTI 2.0” – (Young India combating COVID with Knowledge, Technology and Innovation 2.0), a platform to support the startups incubated in the institutes of higher education over the virtual platform was launched by the Union Minister of Human Resource Development Ramesh Pokhriyal 'Nishank' on 23 June 2020.
    It helps in fostering the innovation and entrepreneurship culture in the academic institutions. Its main objective is to understand the technologies which have commercial potential and information associated with startups incubated in the institutes of higher education. On 11 April 2020, the minister launched ‘YUKTI’ to identify ideas relevant in COVID pandemic. 
Atma Nirbhar Uttar Pradesh Rojgar Yojana
    On 26 June 2020, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched 'Atma Nirbhar Uttar Pradesh Rojgar Yojana', the Uttar Pradhesh's mega employment scheme to provide jobs to migrant workers Via video conference.
    This yojana focused on generating employment for those migrant workers of Uttar Pradesh state, who recently returned from other states.

 

PM CARES Fund
    Union government declared to allocate Rs.3,000 crore from PM CARES for ventilator supply and migrants welfare. Rs. 2,000 crore will be spent in the procurement of 50,000 Made-in-India ventilators to Government-run COVID hospitals in all States/Union Territories.
    The Indian companies involved in manufacturing the ventilators include the Bharat Electronics Limited, the AgVa Healthcare and the AMTZ Basic. Rs. 1,000 crore allocated for the welfare of migrant labour. The fund can be spent on arranging accommodation, food, medical treatment and transportation of the migrants. The Prime Minister is the ex-officio Chairman of the PM CARES Fund. It was established as a public charitable trust. 

IN-SPACe
    The union government will constitute Indian National Space Promotion and Authorization Centre (IN-SPACe) for effective socio-economic usage of space technology. The above decision taken by the union cabinet chaired by the PM Narender Modi and approved the participation of the private sector in the entire range of space activities, including planetary exploration missions. IN-SPACe will provide a level playing field for private companies to use Indian space infrastructure.


Annual TB Report 2020
    Central TB Division of Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare released the Annual “India TB (Tuberculosis) Report 2020” on June 24th. As per this report, there were around 24.04 lakh TB patients in 2019, a 14% increase compared to the previous year. Due to easy availability of molecular diagnostics, the proportion of children  diagnosed with TB increased to 8 percent in 2019 compared to 6 percent in 2018. More than 4.5 lakh lakh DOT (Directly observed treatment) Centers provide treatment covering almost every village across the country.
 

International 
VaYU

    “Vivekananda Yoga University” (VaYU), the World’s first Yoga University outside India was launched on June 23rd by the Union Minister of State of External Affairs P P Chaudhary in Los Angeles, United States of America. Founded on the principles of Swami Vivekananda's love for universal welfare, VaYU will offer online graduate programmes based on scientific principles and modern research approaches to yoga. The programmes combine scientific principles and modern research approaches to the ancient Indian practice of yoga. H R Nagendra, the Chancellor of Swami Vivekananda Yoga Anusandhana Samsthana (SVYASA) is the first Chairman of VaYU.


Conference for UNRWA
    Union Minister of State for External Affairs V Muraleedharan participated in the Extraordinary Virtual Ministerial Pledging Conference for UNRWA. He announced the $ 10 million to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) over the coming two years.
    When few nations withdrew funding, India had stepped up its annual pledge from $ 1.25 million to $ 5 million in 2018. The minister said that India already disbursed $ 2 million and will soon be remitting the balance $ 3 million. India is a major development partner of Palestine. Apart from funding people-centric development projects worth $ 72 million, India will also donate life-saving drugs to Palestine to help them in their fight against COVID-19. 


RIC meeting
    India attended the Russia-India-China (RIC) trilateral foreign ministers meeting hosted by Russia through video-conference on June 23rd. Attending the meet, the External Affairs Minister of India S. Jaishankar called on countries to respect international law and recognizing the legitimate interest of partners.
    The meeting comes during the escalating border standoff between India and China at the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in eastern Ladakh. The meeting focussed on the global situation arising out of the coronavirus pandemic, regional developments of common concern and global changes.


Victory Day
    Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh attended the Victory Parade at Red Square in Moscow on 24 June 2020 to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the victory of the Soviet forces in World War II. It was originally scheduled on May 9, 2020 but was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. 
    The Tri-Service contingent of the Indian Armed Forces comprised 75 all ranks marched along with contingents of Russian Armed Forces and 17 other countries in victory parade. The defence minister met the Russian  Deputy Prime Minister Yury Ivanovichh Borisov discussed bilateral relationships and reviewed the India-Russia defence cooperation.

 

Pak in ‘Grey List’
    The Paris-based Financial Action Task Force (FATF) retained Pakistan in Grey List due to deficiencies found in money laundering and anti-terror funding laws and their implementation. FATF plenary meeting chaired by China found that Pakistan had failed to deliver on 13 of the 27 points in the action plan that it had pledged to implement.
    The meeting stressed the Prime Minister Imran Khan’s government should probe the widest range of terror financing. His government should implement targeted financial sanctions against all UN-designated terrorists and prohibiting their access to funding. Germany takes over the presidency of the FATF in July 2020 for a year.

 

45th Edition of TIFF 2020
    Priyanka Chopra and filmmaker Anurag Kashyap are among the 50 celebrated filmmakers and actors invited as the ambassadors of Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) 2020 to be held in September 2020. TIFF is one of the largest publicly attended film festivals in the world. 
    This year’s selection comprises a lineup of 50 new feature films, five programmes of short films including Ammonite, directed by Francis Lee (United Kingdom).

UN honour


    United Nations honoured the Kerala Health Minister KK Shailaja for her efforts to fight COVID 19 pandemic on World Public Service Day, celebrated on 23 June. 
    She was invited by the United Nations to participate in a panel to share Kerala's strategy of aggressive testing, contact tracing and how quarantining helped slow the spread of the deadly COVID virus. 
    The webinar was organised to honour leaders who have done commendable work in the fight against Covid-19.     
    United Nations every year on June 23, observes the world public service day to appreciate and pay respect to public servants across the world.

 

Peace Prize
    Amartya Sen, the Nobel-laureate Indian economist was conferred with the prestigious ‘Peace Prize of the German Book Trade’ for his decades-long work on global Social justice, addressing the questions on social inequality in education and healthcare.
    The 'Human Development Index’, the 'Capabilities Approach’ and the 'Notion of missing women’ are his greatest contributions to the world of Economy.  The award will be presented by the German Publishers and Booksellers Association, Brsenverein.
    The award will be given to honour such individuals who have made an outstanding contribution to the realization of the idea of peace primarily through his activities in the fields of literature, science and art. 
Peace Prize has been awarded since 1950 and cash award carries a sum of 25,000 Euros.

 

Women’s World Cup
    Australia and New Zealand will jointly host the 2023 FIFA women world cup. This is the first Women’s World Cup to be hosted in the Asia-Pacific Region. 32 teams will participate in the event.
    FIFA president Gianni Infantino suggested conducting of the tournament every 2 years instead of every 4 years.
    2019 FIFA women world cup hosted by France and the USA was a winner and the Netherlands was the runner.
