MOBILE MASTERJEE DEVELOPED BY?  

National
App Innovation Challenge

    Aatmanirbhar Bharat App Innovation Challenge was launched by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi on July 4th to facilitate the techies and start-up community to create world-class Made in India Apps. The challenge would run in two tracks - promotion of existing apps and development of new apps.
    The Track-01 will work in mission mode for identifying good quality Apps for the leader-board and shall be completed in around a month. The Track-02 initiative will work to help create new champions in India by providing support in ideation, incubation, prototyping and roll out along with market access.


Rewa Solar Power Project 

    Asia’s biggest solar project in Rewa district, Madhya Pradesh was inaugurated by PM Narendra Modi on 10 July 2020 through a video link.
    The Rewa solar project reduces carbon dioxide emissions every year by about 1.5 million tonnes. India welcomes foreign investments in clean energy. This solar power park is a joint venture company of Madhya Pradesh Urja Vikas Nigam Limited (MPUVN) and Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) a central public sector undertaking.
    India commits to attaining the target of 175 GW of installed renewable energy capacity by the year 2022 including 100 GW of solar installed capacity.


ATL App Development Module

    NITI Aayog’s Atal Innovation Mission (AIM) launched the ATL App Development Module for school children across the country.  The module was launched on July 12th in collaboration with Indian homegrown startup Plezmo to sharpen the skills of school students and transforming them from App users to App makers.
    The ATL (Atal Tinkering Lab) App Development module is an online course and completely free. Through 6 project-based learning modules and online mentoring sessions, young innovators can learn to build mobile Apps in various Indian languages and showcase their talent.


Agriculture Infrastructure Fund

    On 8 July 2020, the Union Cabinet gave its approval to set up an Agriculture Infrastructure Fund with a corpus of One Lakh crore rupees. 
    Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar said that under the fund, the loans will be given by the banks and financial institutions to primary agriculture credit societies, farmers’ groups, farmer producer organizations (FPOs), Agri-entrepreneurs, start-ups and Agri-tech players.
    Loans will be disbursed in four years starting with the sanction of Rs.10,000 crore in the current year and Rs.30,000 crore each in the next three financial years. All loans under this financing facility will have interest subvention of 3 percent per annum. The Agriculture Infrastructure Fund was part of the Rs. 20 lakh crore stimulus package announced in response to the COVID-19 disaster.

 

Mobile Masterjee

    Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Kanpur developed an innovative virtual classroom aid titled 'Mobile Masterjee'. It is targeted at helping the rural schools overcome the teaching and learning challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic.
    In this aid, the classroom-to-home teaching setup is designed to record the lectures/instructions by the teachers while using smartphones.  
    ‘Mobile Masterjee’ can capture the videos in horizontal (table) and vertical (blackboard) positions.

 

India Global Week 2020

    Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated India Global Week 2020, a virtual conference being organized in the UK on July 9th.  
    India Global Week is a three-day virtual conference based on the theme 'Be the Revival: India and a Better New World'. Revival with care, revival with compassion and revival which is sustainable both for the environment and the economy is the objective of India.
    Five thousand global participants from 30 nations will be addressed by 250 global speakers across 75 sessions on this occasion.

 

Largest Data Centre

    Asia’s largest certified tier IV data centre was inaugurated by Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray on July 7th. It is the largest of its kind in India, as well as the second-largest in the world.
    The private facility is owned by the Hiranandani Group, via its fully owned subsidiary, the Yotta Infrastructure Group. The Yotta data centre is aimed at catering for engineering and real estate businesses. 
    The data centre offers 7200 racks and 50 MW of power with 48 hour backup. 

 

International
Guinness Record in Tiger Census 

    The fourth cycle of the All India Tiger Estimation 2018 now entered the Guinness World Record for being the world's largest camera trap wildlife survey.
    The official Guinness World Record website said that the fourth iteration of the survey conducted in 2018-19 was the most comprehensive to date, in terms of both resource and data amassed. Camera traps were placed in 26,838 locations across 141 different sites and surveyed an effective area of 121,337 square  kilometers.
    The country now has an estimated 2,967 tigers as per the latest census. With this number, India is home to nearly 75% of the global tiger population and has already fulfilled its resolve of doubling tiger numbers, made at St Petersburg in 2010, much before the target year of 2022.

 

AIIB released $50 million 
    To fund Renewable Energy projects in the country, the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) released $50 million in the first tranche of assistance to L&T Infrastructure Finance Ltd. Having a base in Beijing, China, the AIIB is a multilateral development bank that invests in sustainable infrastructure.

    AIIB invests in sustainable infrastructure which has sanctioned a total $100 million loan to the unit of L&T Finance Holdings. This is AIIB’s first loan to a non-banking financial company (NBFC) in India.
 

World Bank provides $400-million loan
    World Bank provides a loan of $400-million to enhance support for the Namami Gange programme to rejuvenate the Ganga River. The $400 million funding support comprises a loan of $381 million and a proposed guarantee of up to $19 million. The $381 million loan has a maturity of 18.5 years, including a grace period of five years. The World Bank has been supporting the government’s efforts since 2011 through the ongoing National Ganga River Basin Project. 


Real Estate Transparency Index
    India got 34th rank in the Global Real Estate Transparency Index 2020. The higher rank registered due to higher levels of transparency observed in India due to regulatory reforms, enhanced market data, and sustainability initiatives.
    India's rank has improved by five notches from 39 to 34 for the last six years from 2014 until 2020. UK, USA and Australia claimed the top three ranks respectively. Jones Lang LaSalle’s (JLL) biennial Global Real Estate Transparency Index (GRETI) released this 2020 Index observed the reforms in Real estate sector is the main reason for India’s better ranking.

UNIFIL Environment Award

    Indian Battalion stationed with the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) won an environment award. 
    The Indian Battalion was adjudged first for a project that seeks to increase awareness and decrease waste generation by planting seedlings in their positions and areas of responsibility, preventing littering, reusing plastic bottles, building greenhouses and building compost pits. UNIFIL Head of Mission and Force Commander Major General Stefano Del Col gave the annual environmental awards to seven Missions  entities for initiating and implementing innovative projects to preserve the environment.

 

Panghal ranked No.1
    Amit Panghal, the Indian boxer and World Championship silver medalist ranked number one in men's 52 kg weight class, according to the latest world rankings released by the International Boxing Association.
    He is the only Indian to claim the number one spot in the rankings prepared based on performances up to the World Championships last year. World championship silver medallist Manju Rani got the second rank in the 48 Kg weight class.

 

Dhamma Chakra Day
    On 4 July 2020, the President of India, Ram Nath Kovind inaugurated the Asadha Poornima celebrations being observed as a Dhamma Chakra Day from Rashtrapati Bhavan, New Delhi. The day  commemorates Buddha's First Sermon to his first five ascetic disciples at the Deer Park, Sarnath near Varanasi, UP. The day is also celebrated by Buddhists all over the world as the day of Dharma Chakra Parvattana or 'Turning of the Wheel of Dharma'. This day also observed as Guru Poornima by both Buddhists and Hindus as a day to mark reverence to their guru.
