‘SVAMITVA’was launched to provide?

STARS project
On 14th October 2020, the Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Modi approved the implementation of the Strengthening Teaching-Learning and Results for States (STARS) project with a total cost of Rs. 5,718 crore, with the financial support of the World Bank amounting to $500 million or about Rs. 3,700 crore. The STARS project supports the states in developing, implementing, evaluating and improving interventions with direct linkages to improved education outcomes and school to work transition strategies for improved labour market outcomes. It covers 6 states - Himachal Pradesh, Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Kerala and Odisha which will be supported for various interventions for improving the quality of education.
The project envisaged under the National Education Policy will be rolled out as a new centrally sponsored scheme under which the National Assessment Centre is also being set up. The union cabinet also proposed to implement Asian Development Bankfunded project in 5 states - Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, Uttarakhand, Jharkhand and Assam. Under this, all states will partner with one other state for sharing their experiences and best practices.


INS Sindhuvir
India will deliver a kilo class submarine INS Sindhuvir to Myanmar Navy. It will be the first submarine in the Myanmar navy. The step was taken as per India's vision of SAGAR (Security and Growth for All in the Region) and also in line with India's commitment to building capacities and self-reliance in the neighbouring countries.


Tree Transplantation Policy 
‘Tree Transplantation Policy’ for the preservation of trees initiated by Delhi cabinet. Under this policy, the minimum of 80% of trees affected by a development or construction project will be transplanted and as much 80% of the transplanted trees must survive after transplantation. The dedicated Tree Transplantation Cell will also be formed by the Delhi government to make a success of the scheme. The Cabinet also agreed or the installation of the second smog tower in the world at Connaught Place within ten months by spending Rs. 20 crore.  The first smog tower in the world was set up in China.


SVAMITVA
On 11 October 2020, Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually launched the physical distribution of Property Cards under the SVAMITVA Scheme to transform rural India and empower millions
of people. SVAMITVA (Survey of Villages And Mapping with Improvised Technology in Village Areas) was launched to provide the record of rights to village household owners in rural areas and issue
Property Cards. The initiative prevents illegal capturing of their properties. The villagers will get the legal rights of their houses through property cards which will help them further to avail loans from banks and other financial facilities.


Gyan Circle Ventures
‘Gyan Circle Ventures’ is a Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology funded TBI (Technology Business Incubator) of IIIT Sri City, Andhra Pradesh was virtually inaugurated by the Union Minister for Education Ramesh Pokhriyal 'Nishank' on 8 October 2020. The incubator would leverage the institutions’ entrepreneurial spirit via utilizing its intellectual capital and engage in using emerging technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), Blockchain, Cyber - Physical Systems (CPS), Cyber Security, Internet of Things (IoT), Robotics, etc.

SCO summit of Ministers of Justice
On 16 October 2020, India hosted the virtual Summit of Ministers of Justice of Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO). The Experts Working Group of SCO Member States discussed the importance of promoting alternative dispute resolution mechanism as also cooperation in all spheres including legal, given the spread of the coronavirus pandemic.


International Conference on Mental Health
The International Conference on Mental Health was organised by the Union Social Justice and Empowerment Ministry along with the University of Melbourne.  World Mental Health Day is observed on 10 October every year, with the overall objective of raising awareness of mental health issues around the world and mobilizing
efforts in support of mental health.


India helps UNRWA
On 14 October 2020, India contributed $ 1 million to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) to support Palestinian refugees who have been facing extreme challenges due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The money will be used by UNRWA to provide education, health care, relief and social services for Palestine refugees India increased its annual financial contribution to UNRWA from $ 1.25 million in 2016 to $ 5 million in 2018 and 2019.


Global TB report
World Health Organization (WHO) released the 2020 edition of the global TB report on 14 October 2020. The report observed that despite steady progress in tackling tuberculosis in recent years, global targets for prevention and treatment of the disease will likely be missed largely.
India is one of the three countries bearing the largest share of the global burden of TB cases along with China and the Russian Federation. The report also said that India, Indonesia, the Philippines and South Africa account for 44% of global TB cases. Approximately 1.4 million people died from TB-related illnesses in 2019. However, a 9% reduction in TB incidence and a 14% drop in deaths were recorded between the years 2015 and 2019.


QUAD Foreign Ministers meet
The four major Indo-Pacific democracies India, the USA, Japan and Australia are collectively known as the QUARD agreed to coordinate in ensuring peace and stability of the region. The four nations agreed to step up coordination in creating a free and open Indo-Pacific, amidst China's growing assertiveness in the strategically vital region. The in-person meeting of the foreign ministers of the 'QUAD' hosted by Japan took place in the backdrop of China's aggressive military behaviour in the Indo-Pacific, South China Sea and along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in eastern Ladakh.


Cybersecurity pact
The Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi approved for signing a Memorandum of Cooperation (MoC) in the field of cybersecurity between India and Japan. On this eve, both nations welcomed the finalization of the text of the cybersecurity agreement to enhance the need for robust and resilient digital and cyber systems, recognizing the increasing role being played by digital technologies.


India re-elected
India was re-elected as the President and France as the Co-President of the International Solar Alliance (ISA) for a term of two years at its third assembly held virtually on 14 October 2020. 34 ISA members participated in the assembly which approved the initiatives of the ISA Secretariat in institutionalizing ISA’s engagement with the private and public corporate sector through the Coalition for Sustainable Climate Action.

New Zealand got the first rank in the index, emerged as the country with the most powerful passport in the world. Citizens of New Zealand get visafree travel to 129 destinations. Japan got the second rank. India got 58th rank as visa-free access to multiple nations has been revoked due to coronavirus pandemic. It should be remembered that Henley Passport Index put Japan's passport at the top of its list released in July 2020.
