Data Sufficiency

Directions (Qs. 1 - 16): Each of the questions below consists of a question and two statements numbered as I and II given below it. You have to decide whether the data provided in the statements are sufficient to answer the question. Read all the two statements and give answer.

A) The data in statement I alone is sufficient to answer the question, while the data in statement II alone is not sufficient to answer the question.

B) The data in statement II alone is sufficient to answer the question, while the data in statement I alone is not sufficient to answer the question.

C) The data either in statement I alone or in statement II alone is sufficient to answer the question.

D) The data given in both statements I and II together are not sufficient to answer the question.

E) The data in both statements I and II together is necessary to answer the question.

1. Seven persons namely J, K, L, M, N, O and P have different height. How many persons taller than M?

Statement I: M is taller than N and K but not as much as J, L. N is taller than P, O but not as much as L, M.

Statement II: N is taller than P, O but not as much as L, M. K is taller than N, P but not as much as M, L. J is the tallest among all. P is only taller than O.

2. Six persons P, Q, R, S, T and U are sitting around a circular table facing the center but not necessarily in the same order. Who sits third to the left of T?

Statement I: Two persons sit between P and Q. U is not an immediate neighbour of P.

Statement II: R and S are immediate neighbours. U is second to the right of S.

3. By using which statement we can conclude ‘some Pens are not Scale’?

Statement I: Some Pens are Pencils, All Pencils are Books, No Book is Scale.

Statement II: Some Pens are Pencils, All Pencils are Books, Some Books are Scales.

4. Seven persons A, B, C, D, E, F and G are sitting in a row. All are facing North direction but not necessarily in the same order. Who sits fourth to the left of A?

Statement I: F sits middle of the row. Two persons sit between G and F.

Statement II: D is not an immediate neighbour of G. A sits second to the right of C. C is not sitting at any extreme end of the row.

5. Seven persons – A, B, C, D, E, F and G has exam on seven different days of the same week starting from Monday to Sunday, but not necessarily in the same order. Who has an exam on Friday?

Statement I: Only four persons have exam between C and B, who has an exam after C. Two persons have exam between B and G. F has an exam on one of the days after Thursday but not on Sunday.

Statement II: Only two persons have an exam before G. Three persons has exam between E and G. A has an exam on one of the days before G and two persons has exam between A and F, who is not immediate to G.

6. How is W related to H?

Statement I: E is the father of W, who is the brother-in-law of S. H is the brother of T. D is the daughter of A, who is the spouse of W.

Statement II: N is the brother of D, who is the niece of S. H is the brother-in-law of E. A is the daughter-in-law of T. S is unmarried.

7. There are seven persons namely, A, B, C, D, E, F and G are living in a building which has seven floors. The ground floor is numbered as 1 and the topmost floor is numbered as 7 but not necessarily in the same order. Who lives in fourth floor?

Statement I: D lives in odd numbered floor but above fourth floor. Two persons live between D and B. A lives in even numbered floor and only one person lives between A and C, who lives below A.

Statement II: G lives in odd numbered floor and three persons live between G and F, who lives above G. One person lives between F and D. Three persons live between D and E.

8. How is R related to T?

Statement I: P is the daughter of M. T is the uncle of R, who is the child of K. U is the mother-in-law of K.

Statement II: M has only two children. K is the father of H. U is the grandmother of R. P is the spouse of K.

9. What is the code for ‘are’ in a certain given code language?

Statement I: ‘people are hungry’ is coded as ‘pw ds me’ and ‘all good people’ is coded as ‘br me ct’ in the give code language.

Statement II: ‘Those are starving’ is coded as ‘fb pw yw’ and ‘hungry people more’ is coded as ‘lt ds me’ in the give code language.

10. Seven persons – A, B, C, D, E, F and G are sitting in a straight line and all are facing South direction but not necessarily in the same order. Who sits second to the right of E?

Statement I: F sits exactly middle of the line. One person sit between F and C. E sits second to the right of B, who sits one of the extreme ends of the line.

Statement II: D sits second from one of the ends. Two persons sit between D and E. A is sitting third to the right of C, who sits second from one of the ends.

Statement I: City P is in the North of city S, which is in the West of city H. City H, K and N form a straight line. City N is towards the North of city H.

Statement II: City N is in North of city K, which is in the West of city G. City P is towards the South of city V, which is in the East of city G.

12. Seven letters – D, H, K, M, R, V, and Y are placed in an order from left to right such that no meaningful English word is formed. Find the position of V with respect to K.

Statement I: D is third to the left of M, who is placed exactly in the middle of the word. V is adjacent to D. R is second to the right of K but not adjacent to M.

Statement II: Y is to the immediate left of R. K is second to the right of D, which is placed at an extreme end. V is not placed after M, which is placed exactly in the middle of the row.

Statement I: R sits third to the left of S. Two persons sit between Y and Q, who sits second to the right of S.

Statement II: T sits second to the right of Z. S is one of the immediate neighbours of Z. Two persons sit between S and R.

15. Eight persons – P, Q, R, S, T, U, V and W are sitting around a square table one person sitting at each corner and middle of each side of the table but not necessarily in the same order. Persons sitting at corners are facing outside while persons sitting at sides are facing the centre. Who sits third to the right of Q?

Statement I: One person sitting between U and V, who sits one of the sides of the table. R sits third to the left of V. Two persons sit between R and W. Q sits third to the left of U.

Statement II: S sits one of the corners of the table. Three persons sit between S and Q. One person sits between S and P. P sits third to the left of T, who is one of the immediate neighbours of Q. U sits second left of V, who is not immediate to both Q and T

16. Seven members – L, M, N, O, P, Q and R are born in seven different months of the same year starting from January to July, but not necessarily in the same order. Who is the youngest?

Statement I: R sits third to the left of S. Two persons sit between Y and Q, who sits second to the right of S.

Statement II: T sits second to the right of Z. S is one of the immediate neighbours of Z. Two persons sit between S and R.
