VOICE 

It is a way of expressing an action by using Transitive verb


Rules to Change the Voice
I.
 When a Verb is changed from the active voice into the passive voice, the object of the Active Verb becomes the subject, and the subject of the active verb becomes the object.
Pronouns are changed as under


Subject    Changed into object

I                 me

We             us

You            you

He             him

She           her

It                 it

They          them

II. Change the main verb into its past participle form (V3)

III. Put proper form of the helping verb before the main verb according to the tense of the main verb in active voice and the number (Singular / Plural) of the new subject
Put the preposition by before the object
Indefinite subjects like someone, somebody, everyone, everybody, they, people etc., may be dropped.
e.g.: 1) Some one has attended this meeting. (A.V)
            This meeting has been attended. (P.V)
       2) People always admire this picture. (A.V)
            This picture is always admired.(P.V)

 

PRACTICE EXERCISE
 

1. Swetha teaches polity.
A: Polity was taught by Swetha.

 

2. Bindu plays volleyball.
A: Volleyball was played by Bindu.

 

3. The little girl is plucking the flowers.
A: The flowers were being plucked by the little girl.

4. Madam Curie invented radio activity.
A: Radio activity was invented by madam Curie.

 

5. Pawan is drinking Milk.
A: Milk was being drunk by Pawan.

 

6. My uncle established a cottage industry.
A: A cottage industry was established by my uncle.

 

7. Bharath has achieved IAS.
A: IAS has been achieved by Bharath.

 

8. Tiger eats meat.
A: Meat was eaten by Tiger.

 

9. Sun provides heat and light.
A: Heat and light were provided by Sun.

 

10. Sea produces the cool breeze.
A: The cool breeze was produced by Sea.

 

11. I am working in infosys since 4 years.
A: I have been working in infosys since 4 years.

12. She did not do this.
A: This was not done by her.

 

13. Ram married Sita.
A: Sita was married to Ram.

 

14. They were following him.
A: He was being followed by them.

 

15. He writes the report.
A: The report was written by him.

 

16. She will not meet you.
A: You will not be met by her.

 

17. will you call me?
A: Shall I be called by you.

 

18. He has bought a new bike
A: A new bike has been bought by him.

 

19. Distribute the books.
A: Let the books be distributed.

20. Tell her to wait here.
A: Let her be told to wait here.

 

21. Have you to buy a car?
A: Have a car been bought by you?

 

22. I gave him a book.
A: A book was given by me to him.

 

23. He hopes to pass this year.
A: It is hoped by him that he will pass this year.

 

24. Were you doing the work?
A: was the work being done by you?

 

25. Please come in
A: You are requested to come in.

 

26. He makes kites.
A: Kites were made by him.

 

27. The farmer is watering the plants.
A: The plants were being watered by the farmer.

28. Meenu ran a race.
A: A race was ran by Meenu.

 

29. She meets no one.
A: No one is met by her.

 

30. Do not go there
A: You are ordered not to go there.
