Data Interpretation - Caselets

    Banking exams such as IBPS PO, IBPS CLERK etc. will have a special focus on data interpretation in the form of caselets. In caselets data are given in the form of paragraphs. No charts/graphs are provided with the data. Caselets vary considerably in length, in the amount of information contained, in different sentences and paragraph. While reading a caselets it’s always advisable to underline the important fact and figures and if necessary make your own table/ chart/ graphs for solving the questions.

Total number of females who visited Taj Mahal from Russia is half the number of males from same country. Ratio between total number of males who visited Taj Mahal from Germany and Japan are in the ratio of 1 : 2. Number of females from Japan is 1200 which is 200 less than the number of females from Germany who visited Taj Mahal. Total number of females and males from all the countries who visited Taj Mahal is 5000 and 5670 respectively.

a) 930              b) 690             c) 530

d) 550              e) None of these

Solutions: (Qs.6 - 10): Total number of males from USA is 290 less than the number of female from same country who visited the Taj Mahal. Let total number of females from USA = X and number of male from USA = X − 290

X + X − 290 = 1710 accordingly X = 1000,

Key

6-c; Number of male and female from Germany who visited Taj Mahal = 720 + 1400 = 2120

7-e; Required ratio = 710 : 1440 = 71 : 144

8-d; Average number of Females from USA, Japan and Germany

Directions (Qs. 11 - 15): Answer the questions based on the information given below. Out of 200 people who attended a marriage party 100 had Golgappa, 120 had Chicken tikka and 40 had none of these two. 100 people had exactly one of two items.

15. What is the ratio between number of people who like only Golgappa to person who like Chicken tikka?

a) 1 : 1               b) 2 : 3               c) 1 : 5             d) 1 : 3           e) None

Solutions (Qs. 11 - 15):

Persons who like Golgappa = 100 = A + B

Persons who like Chicken tikka = 120 = B + C

Persons who like none of these = 40

Persons who like exactly one of two items = 100 = A + C

2 (A + B + C) = 100 + 120 + 100 = 320

A + B + C = 160

A = 160 − 120 = 40

B = 160 − 100 = 60

C = 160 − 100 = 60

D = Persons who do not like any of two = 40

Key

11-d; People had like both the items = B = 60

12-b; Persons who does not like Chicken tikka
= Persons who like only Golgappa +
persons who like none of them = A = 40 +
40 = 80

13-d; Persons who like Only Golgappa A = 40

Persons who like Only Chicken tikka = B = 60

14-d; Required answer = C = 60

15-d; Required ratio = 40 : (60 + 60) = 40 : 120
= 1 : 3
