Data Sufficiency

Directions (Qs. 1 - 6): Each of the questions below consist of a question and two statements numbered I and II. You have to decide whether the data provided in the statements are sufficient to answer the question.

A) The data in either statement I alone or statement II alone is sufficient to answer the question.

B) The data in statement II alone is sufficient to answer the question, while the data in statement I is not sufficient to answer the question.

C) The data, even in both statements I and statement II together, are not sufficient to answer the question.

D) The data in both statement I and statement II together is necessary to answer the question.

E) The data in statement I alone is sufficient to answer the question, while the data in statement II is not sufficient to answer the question


1. Eight boxes F, G, H, I, J, K, L and M are arranged one above the other in a stack but not necessarily in the same order. What is position of box J from bottom?

Statement I: Only two boxes are above to box M. Box J and box L are immediate boxes. The number of boxes above box M is same as between box M and box J.

Statement II: Box K is immediate above to box F. Three boxes are between box F and box J, which is immediate to box L. Box I is above box L.


2. Six persons - P, Q, R, S, T, U are sitting in a straight-line facing North. They all like different flowers viz. Rose, Tulip, Lilly, Lotus, Jasmine, and Dahlia, but not necessarily in the same order. Who likes Rose?

Statement I: R is third to right of the one who likes Dahlia. One person is sitting between the one who likes Dahlia and T.

Statement II: P is immediate right of the one who likes Jasmine. P and R are immediate neighbours. The one who likes Rose is second to the left of P.


3. Seven members - F, G, H, J, K, L, and M are living in a building which has eight floors. One of the floor is vacant. The ground floor is numbered as 1 just above to it is numbered as 2 till the top floor is numbered as 8. Which floor is the vacant?

Statement I: F lives in odd numbered floor, but not above third floor. Three persons live between F and G. Neither top floor nor bottom most floor is vacant.

Statement II: Even number floor is not the vacant. M lives two floors above F. L and J lives in immediate floors and neither of them lives at top floor.


4. Six members - M, N, O, P, Q, R, are like different ornaments viz. Bangle, Chain, Ring, Bracelet, Ear rings, and Choker, but not necessarily in the same order. Who likes Ring?

Statement I: N likes either Bangle or Ear ring. Either Q or R likes Bangle. Either N or R likes Bracelet. Neither O nor P likes Ring.

Statement II: Either P or Q likes Chain. R likes either Bracelet or Choker. Neither N nor Q likes Choker. Q likes Bangle.


5. Seven persons - L, M, N, O, P, Q and R are sitting in a straight-line facing North. Who is the extreme right end?

Statement I: L is immediate right of P, who is third from the one of the ends. Only two persons sitting between L and Q. N is immediate right of O.

Statement II: L is second to the right of M. Only one person sitting between L and N. Q is immediate left of M.


6. Certain number of persons are sitting in a straight-line facing North. How many persons sitting in row?

Statement I: Only one person is sitting between Uma and Mani. Mani and John are immediate neighbours. The number of persons sitting between Venu and Mani is same as to the left of Venu.

Statement II: Only three persons sitting between Lasya and Pawan, who is sitting at extreme left end. Mani is not sitting at any ends of the row. Venu is second to the left of Uma. John is second to the right of Lasya.
