ARTICLES

* a, an- లను singular common nounsకు ముందు మాత్రమే ఉపయోగించాలి.

* బహువచనంలో (plural) ఉండే common nouns కు ముందు a లేదా an లను ఉపయోగించకూడదు.
* a అనే article ను consonant soundతో ప్రారంభమయ్యే singular common nounsకు ముందు ఉపయోగించాలి. (eg: a pen, a cat, a dog, a fan, a gun, a hen, a jug, a kite, a leg, a mat, a net)
* an అనే articleను vowel soundతో ప్రారంభమయ్యే singular common nounsకు ముందు ఉపయోగించాలి. (eg: an ant, an apple, an academy, an engineer, an eagle, an earthquake, an idiot, an idiom, an image, an illustration, an office, an object, an orator, an oyster)
* a, an లకు సంబంధించిన సాధారణ ఉపయోగాల కంటే, వాటికి ఉన్న ప్రత్యేకమైన ఉపయోగాల గురించి బాగా అధ్యయనం చేయండి. ఉదాహరణకు ఈ కింది expressionsలో ‘a’ను ఉపయోగించడాన్ని బాగా పరిశీలించండి.

* కొన్ని singular common nouns అచ్చు అక్షరంతో (vowel letter) మొదలైనప్పటికీ అవి ప్రారంభంలో హల్లు శబ్దాన్ని (consonant sound) కలిగి ఉండటం వల్ల వాటికి ముందు a అనే articleను ఉపయోగించాలి. (eg: a university; a union, a European, a useful lesson, a unit, a utensil, a one rupee note, a one eyed beggar etc.)
* కొన్ని singular common nouns హల్లు అక్షరంతో (consonant letter) మొదలైనప్పటికీ అవి ప్రారంభంలో అచ్చు శబ్దాన్ని (vowel sound) కలిగి ఉండటం వల్ల వాటికి ముందు an అనే articleను ఉపయోగించాలి. (eg: an hour, an honest man, an heir, an honourable position etc.)
* The అనే ఆర్టికల్‌ను ఉపయోగించే ముఖ్యమైన సందర్భాలను గుర్తుంచుకోండి.
Examples:
*  Before the names of unique things (eg: the sun, the moon, the earth, the sky, the world)
*  Before the superlative adjectives (eg: the tallest, the most, the best, the least, the smallest)
*  Before the names of rivers, seas, oceans etc. (eg: the Ganges, the Black sea, the Indian ocean)

*  Before the names of the important books (eg: The Paradise Lost, The Bible, The Ramayana, The Gita)

*  Before the names of nationalities, sects and communities (eg: the French, the British, the Indians, the Hindus)
*  Before adjectives that qualify a proper noun (eg: Mahatma the great, Mother Teressa the mother)
*  Before the names of musical instruments (eg: the veena, the sitar, the tabala, the flute, the guitar)
*  Before the names of historical buildings (eg: the Taj Mahal, the Red Fort, the charminar)  
*  Before the names of directions: (eg: the east, the west, the north, the south)
*  Before the ordinal numbers (eg: first, second, third, fourth, tenth etc)
*  Before the double comparatives (eg.The more you give, the less I want.)
*  Before the comparative degree used in the sense of a superlative degree (Prema is the cleverest of the two sisters.) 

*  Before the proper nouns which are used as common nouns (eg: Kalidasa is the Shakespeare of India.)

*  గమనిక: Omission of the articles (no article)పై బాగా శ్రద్ధ పెట్టాలి.
Example:
* Before proper nouns which denote the names of persons, streets, villages, cities and countries (eg: Vamsi, Ongole, Nellore, Gandhi Nagar, India etc.)
* Before the names of months, days (eg: March, April, June, Sunday, Monday etc.)
* Before some words when used in general or broad sense (eg: jail, school, college, park, market, man, woman, supper, breakfast, lunch, nature etc)
* Before abstract nouns in general sense (wisdom, knowledge, beauty, courage, honesty etc.)
* Before material nouns in general sense (gold, oil, milk, copper, cotton, steel, iron etc)
* Before the names of games (cricket, tennis etc.)
* Before the names of diseases (fever, cancer, etc. but a headache)

*   Omission of the articles కు ఉండే exceptions (general sense and special sense)ను బాగా అధ్యయనం చేయాలి.

*  కొన్ని ప్రత్యేకమైన phrasesలో articles ను ఉపయోగించరు. అలాంటి phrasesను బాగా జ్ఞాపకం ఉంచుకోవాలి. (eg: on fire; on earth, catch fire, bring word, give ear, by land, on foot, lose heart, above ground, on demand, at home, inland, in debt, at sunset etc.)
*  Articlesకు సంబంధించిన common errors or mistakesపై ప్రత్యేకంగా దృష్టి ఉంచాలి.
* పైన చెప్పిన అన్ని ముఖ్యమైన అంశాలు కింద ఇచ్చిన exercisesలో మీరు practice చేయవచ్చు.
