Notes:
1. Once కు మామూలు అర్థం - ఒకసారి.
¤ ఏదైనా గతంలో ఎప్పుడో జరిగిన విషయం గురించి చెప్పేటప్పుడు ''ఒకానొకప్పుడు" అని వాడతాం = Once upon a time.
¤ ఇక్కడి అర్థం - As soon as = వెంటనే.
¤ On one's own - ఎవరంతటవాళ్లే (సొంతంగా), ఇతరుల సాయం లేకుండా - స్వతంత్రంగా - independently.
ఇది మంచి idiomatic expression. బాగా నేర్చుకుని మన conversation లో వాడదాం.
I can do it on my own: అది నా అంతట నేనే/ స్వతంత్రంగా చేయగలను.
మంచి ఉపయోగకరమైన idiom.
2. Desperately = ఆశంతా కోల్పోయి ఏది చేయడానికైనా సిద్ధంగా ఉండటం.
3. Rotten - అసలు అర్థం : Past participle (v3) of rot = మురిగిపోయిన, కుళ్లిపోయిన
rotten egg = మురిగిపోయిన గుడ్డు;
తిట్టడానికి కూడా వాడతాం, very bad అనే అర్థంతో.
4. Usher in = ప్రవేశ పెట్టడం. Usher in a new system = కొత్త పద్ధతి ప్రవేశపెట్టడం.
5. Near future = shortly = సమీప భవిష్యత్‌లో
Now let's (let us) study the phrases and idioms used in the conversation.
1. Put off = Postpone = వాయిదావేయడం.
Spoken English లో మామూలు writing లో కూడా, postpone కు బదులు, put off నే ఎక్కువగా వాడతారు.

put off ను lights లాంటివి 'ఆర్పివేయడం' అనే అర్థంతో చాలామంది వాడుతూ ఉంటారు. ఇది సరికాదు. ఆర్పివేయడం = put out.
Put out the lights = దీపాలు ఆర్పేయండి.
The fire brigade put out the fire .( అగ్నిమాపకదళం వాళ్లు మంటలార్పేశారు.)
Put Off:
a) Tarun: Isn't your sister's wedding just a week off? You must be very busy.
(మీ చెల్లి పెళ్లికి ఒక వారమే ఉంది కదా! నువ్వు చాలా తీరిక లేకుండా ఉండి ఉండాలే!)
Mohan: No, it had to be put off until next month as the bridegroom's sister was delivered of a child two days ago.
(లేదు. అది నెలరోజులు వాయిదా వేయాల్సి వచ్చింది, పెళ్లికొడుకు అక్క రెండు రోజుల కిందటే బిడ్డను ప్రసవించింది.)
b) Niranjan: How do I see you here? Aren't you playing a match today?
(ఏమిటి నువ్విక్కడ కనిపిస్తున్నావు? ఈరోజు నువ్వు మ్యాచ్ ఆడటంలేదా?)
Madan: They have put off the match until tomorrow because of the bad whether.
(వాతావరణం అనుకూలంగా లేనందున, match రేపటికి వాయిదా వేశారు.)
2. To be fed up with (someone/ something) = Bored or disgusted (with somebody/ something) = విసిగిపోవడం (ఎవరితోనైనా/ దేంతోనైనా).
a) Prakash: You appear to be in a bad mood? (నీ mood బాగున్నట్టు లేదు?)
Durga: I've just sat down to study and the power is off. I'm (I am) really fed up with the power cuts.
(చదవడానికి కూర్చున్నాను, కరెంటు పోయింది. ఈ కరెంట్ కోతలతో విసుగు పుడుతోంది.)
b) Dhanush: How about a Telugu film for a change tonight?
(కాస్త కొత్తదనం కోసం ఈ రాత్రేదయినా తెలుగు సినిమా చూద్దామా?)
Dharmendra: (నిజంగా చెప్పాలంటే తెలుగు సినిమాలంటే విసుగెత్తి To tell you frankly, I am fed up with these Telugu movies. What do you have there? Just four dances and three or four fights.
3. That makes two of us - ఇది మంచి idiom - చాలా ఉపయోగకరమైంది.పోతోంది. ఏం ఉంది వాటిల్లో, నాలుగు డాన్సులూ, మూడు నాలుగు ఫైట్స్ తప్పించి?)

(నా పరిస్థితీ అదే/ ఇద్దరం ఒకేస్థితిలో ఉన్నాం. ఏదైనా తినేందుకు కూడా ఓపికలేదు. నిద్రొస్తుంది.)

(ఆధార్ కార్డుకు దరఖాస్తు పెట్టుకునేందుకు e - seva కేంద్రానికి వెళుతున్నాను.)

(నేనూ అందుకే వెళుతున్నాను. క్యూలో గంటల తరబడి నిలబడాల్సొస్తుందేమోనని భయంగా ఉంది.)
4. To give up = Stop doing something/ trying for something/ to yield = ఏదైనా చేస్తున్నపని మానేయడం/ వదులుకోవడం/ లొంగిపోవడం.
a) Ganesh: How is Madan? Long since I saw him. When I saw him last he was a bag of bones.
(మదన్ ఎలా ఉన్నాడు? చాలా రోజులయ్యింది చూసి. నేనతడిని చివరగా చూసినప్పుడు, బక్కచిక్కిపోయి ఉన్నాడు.)
(Bag of bones = ఎముకల గూడు)
Ganga: He is much much better now. On doctor's advice he has given up smoking and drinking.
(చాలా మెరుగ్గా ఉన్నాడు. డాక్టరు సలహామేరకు పొగ తాగడం, మద్యం సేవించడం మానేశాడు.)
b) Hemanth: Kanchan hasn't been playing so well as he used to. What could be the reason?
(కాంచన్ ఇంతకు ముందులా బాగా ఆడటం లేదు. ఎందువల్ల?)
Hanuman: He has his business to take care of. Actually he wants to give up cricket at the end of this season, and concentrate on business.

Give up కు మరో అర్థం stop trying to do something = ప్రయత్నం విరమించుకోవడం.
c) Govind: I've (I have) attempted the civil services exam twice already, but without success. Will I ever succeed?
(నేను civil services exams రెండుసార్లు ప్రయత్నించి విఫలమయ్యాను. నేనసలు పాసవుతానా?)
Hemanth: You will, of course, if only you have a positive attitude. Don't ever give up. Success will be yours.
(తప్పకుండా, నీకు సానుకూల దృక్పథం ఉంటే. ఎప్పటికీ. ప్రయత్నం మానుకోకు. విజయం నీదవుతుంది.)
5. Do away with = Get rid of something/ stop using something/ to put an end to something = అంతం చేయడం/ మానేయడం/ వదిలించుకోవడం.
a) Akshay: Mr.Principal Sir, you burden the kids too much.
(ప్రిన్సిపల్‌గారూ మీరు చిన్నపిల్లల మీద విపరీతమైన బరువు మోపుతున్నారు).
Principal: What do you mean? (ఏంటి మీరనేది?)
Akshay: Why don't you do away with homework and the heavy school bag?
(ఆ homework, ఆ బరువైన school bag కు ఎందుకు అంతం పలకరు?/ ఎందుకు మానేయరు?)
b) Jagannath: What would be the first thing you would put an end to if you had the power?
(నీకు అధికారం ఉంటే, మొదటగా నువ్వు దేన్ని అంతమొందిస్తావు?)
Krishna: Do away with the evil practice of dowry and animal sacrifices.
(వరకట్న దురాచారాన్ని, జంతుబలులను అంతం చేయడం).
Do away with somebody కూడా ఉంది. దీని అర్థం చంపేయడం.
