Botany is a fascinating, easier and conventional subject. If you study the topics interestingly you can remember well and get good score. Observing the nature will help you in understanding the topic perfectly.
Senior Inter Botany exam will be held for 60 marks. The question paper has 3 types of questions.
Section-A: This section contains 10 very short answer type questions. No choice in this section. You have to answer all the questions. Each question carries 2 marks.
Section-B: This section contains 8 short answer type questions. You have to answer any six of them. You can leave any two questions under choice. Each question carries 4 marks. This section has a question related to the diagram.
Section-C: This section contains 3 long answer type questions. You have to answer any two of them. You can leave 1 question under choice. Each Question carries 8 marks.
Deleted topics
* In second year Botany chapter 2. Mineral nutrition is completely deleted.
* In chapter 6. Plant growth and development topics such as growth, differentiation, dedifferentiation, redifferentiation, development, seed dormancy, photoperiodism, vernalization were deleted.
* In chapter 13. Strategies for enhancement in food production topics like breeding for disease resistance, breeding for resistant to insect pests, breeding for improve food quality, single cell proteins were deleted.
* Hence the students are no need to study the above topics.
* Students should keep in mind blue print and chapter wise weightage of marks for preparation.
Chapter wise weightage of marks
Chapter - 1
Transport in plants covers 6 Marks comprises one 4M and one 2M questions. Learn the definitions of water potential, porins, osmosis, diffusion, guttation, apoplast and symplast. Practice the diagrams of plasmolysis and facilitated diffusion.
Chapter - 3
Enzymes chapter covers 4 Marks question only. Practice key points for different types of cofactors and enzyme inhibitors.
Chapter - 4
Photosynthesis in higher plants covers 6 Marks comprises one 4M and one 2M questions. Read the definitions of photolysis of water, law of limiting factors, primary acceptor of CO2 in C3 and C4 plants. Practice chloroplast diagram.
Chapter - 5
Respiration in plants covers 8 Marks. Only one essay question will be asked either Glycolysis or Krebs cycle. Practice the flow chart of Glycolysis and Krebs cycle to write one essay type question answer.
Chapter - 6
Plant growth and development covers 4 Marks. Prepare any four physiological functions of hormones like auxins, gibberellins, cytokinins.
Chapter - 7
Bacteria covers 2 Marks. Only one 2 marks question will be asked. Carefully read the definitions of transformation, transduction, conjugation, plasmid and pleomorphic bacteria.
Chapter - 8
Viruses covers 4 Marks. Only one 4 marks question will be asked. Prepare the four key points of TMV and T2-Bacteriophage and practice the diagrams perfectly.
Chapter - 9
Principles of inheritance and variations covers 6 Marks comprises one 4M and one 2M questions. Read the terms like phenotype, genotype, point mutation, wrinkled phenotype of pea seeds. Practice the checker board of monohybrid cross, test cross, co-dominance and incomplete dominance to answer the 4 marks questions.
Chapter - 10
Molecular basis of inheritance covers 8 Marks comprises one 4M and two 2M questions. Be focus on exons, introns, heterochromatin, euchromatin, capping, tailing, genetic code, DNA and RNA. Practice the diagram of lac operon.
