Understand the world and get the score

Chemistry is not only the science of the properties... composition.. and structure of substances... it is also everything you hear, see, smell, taste, and touch. All these involve intricate series of chemical reactions and  interactions in your body.  This subject is easy if you have a curiosity to  understand the world around us. Which can make you a better  chemistry student and can help you to get a good score.

Second year chemistry paper is for 60 marks. There are three sections in the paper.

 Section - A

It contains very short answer type questions. There are 10 questions in this section and each question carries two marks. You need to answer all the 10 questions. There is no choice.

 Section - B

It contains short answer type questions. Eight questions will be given and one need to answer any six  questions. Each question carries 4 marks.

 Section - C

It contains essay-type questions. Three questions will be given and one need to answer any two   questions. Each question carries 8 marks.

Syllabus Analysis

Three essay questions will be covered from p - Block elements, Organic chemistry, and Chemical kinetics, and Electrochemistry.

Solid State: Main topics that need to focus in this chapter are a derivation of Bragg’s equation, packing  efficiency, Schottky and Frenkel defects.

Solutions: In this chapter, one has to practice problems on Concentration determination methods and Relative lowering of vapor pressure. The important topics in this chapter are Raoult’s law, positive and negative deviation, RLVP, determination of molar mass, osmotic pressure-determination of molar mass.

Chemical kinetics: One has to focus on the derivation of zero and the first-order rate constant, Half lives, the effect of temperature and catalyst, differences between order and molecularity.

Electrochemistry: Electrolysis and Faraday’s laws, Nernst equation Kohlrausch’s law, Galvanic  cell-construction, working principle, problems on Faraday’s laws need to be focussed.

Surface chemistry: The important concepts are differences between physical and chemical adsorption, Tyndall effect, Brownian motion, Coagulation.

p - block elements: It has 4 sub-parts namely Group-15, 16, 17, and 18 elements. One essay will be covered from this topic. Important concepts are the preparation and properties of Ozone, Chlorine gas, Nitric acid, ammonia, Xenon compounds, Interhalogen compounds.

d, f - block elements and coordination compounds

It has a weightage of 4 + 2 marks. Important concepts are Werner theory, IUPAC nomenclature, transition elements, and properties.

Biomolecules

In IPE point of view, need to cover Vitamins -Sources and Diseases, Amino acids, Glucose and Fructose.

Organic Chemistry:

In this part, one needs to cover all the named reactions, SN1 and SN2 reactions, acidic nature of phenols, and organic conversions.

Chapterwise Weightage
