Timely revision is key to success

Chemistry is a branch of science  involved with elements and compounds composed of atoms,  molecules and ions.  Students must read about their composition, structure, properties,  behavior and the changes they undergo during a reaction with other substances. This subject is easy if you have curiosity to understand it.

Syllabus Analysis

Three Essay questions will be covered from Atomic structure, Classification of elements and Organic chemistry (or some times from Chemical bonding).

Atomic structure: From this unit students need to cover postulates and limitations of Bohr's theory, Hydrogen spectrum and Quantum numbers. From these 3 questions, one essay may be covered. Along with these three questions, it is better to cover Heisenberg Uncertainty Principle, de Broglie's dual nature of matter, Planck's quantum theory, Photo electric effect, Differences between emission and absorption  spectrum, Schrodinger's wave equation.

Periodic classification: From this unit classification of elements into blocks periodicity and variation of  periodic properties in groups and periods, Ionisation energy factors effecting ionisation energy. Along with these three questions students need to cover transition elements and their properties, diagonal relationship.

Hydrocarbons: From this unit preparation and chemical properties of ethane, ethene, ethyne and benzene need to be studied. From General Organic chemistry, one need to focus on isomerism, IUPAC Nomenclature .

Chemical bonding: Students need to cover molecular orbital energy diagram of N2 and O2, Co-ordinate covalent bond with example, Fajan's rules, VSEPR theory postulates, hybridisation with examples from this unit.

States of Matter: From this unit one short answer type and one very short answer type question will be asked. One need to cover, derivation of ideal gas equation, Graham's law and it's applications, Dalton's law of  partial pressures, kinetic theory of molecular gases, deductions of gas laws from kinetic gas equation.
