→ If u and v are functions of x, then the product uv can be integrated by using the following formula:

                                
→ This method is applicable when the integrand is a product of two or more functions, when other usual methods of integration fail.
→ Conveniently 'u' and 'v' are chosen to complete the process of integration after a few steps. For this, "ILATE" is considered.
→ Sometimes '1' is taken in place of 'v', when ' u ' alone is to be integrated. For instance, sin-1x, cos-1x, tan-1x, log x,  etc... are evaluated by involving '1' as 'v.
