ఇంగ్లిష్‌ రాతలో, సంభాషణల్లో Phrasal verbs ను ఉపయోగించడం వల్ల భాష సహజంగా ఉంటుంది. అలాంటి కొన్నింటిని ఉదాహరణల సాయంతో నేర్చుకుందాం!
1. Warm up to somebody = start liking someone as you spend more time with him, especially though you disliked them in the beginning (మొదట ఇష్టపడకపోయినా తర్వాత ఇష్టపడటం).
a) Prasanth: How do you like our new lecturer? Isn't he good at the subject and teaching? (మన కొత్త లెక్చరర్‌ నీకెలా అనిపించాడు? సబ్జెక్టు బాగా తెలిసి, బాగానే బోధిస్తాడు కదా?)
Jayakumar: As he taught us more and more I warmed up to him. He makes the subject sound very easy (ఆయన బోధించినకొద్దీ ఆయనంటే నాకు ఇష్టం పెరిగింది. విషయాన్ని చాలా సులభం అనిపించేలా చేస్తారు).
b) Vishnu: How did Vinai, our executive take to the new director? (మన ఎగ్జిక్యూటివ్‌ వినయ్‌ ఈ కొత్త డైరెక్టర్‌ అంటే ఇష్టపడుతున్నాడా?)
Eswar: Not much, but it is only a few days since he took over. But I am sure as time goes on he will warm up to him. He is such a nice guy (అంత ఎక్కువేం లేదు. అంటే కొన్ని రోజుల కిందేగా అతను బాధ్యతలు స్వీకరించింది. కానీ కాలం గడిచినకొద్దీ ఆయనంటే ఇష్టపడతాడు. అంత మంచివాడు ఆ డైరెక్టర్‌).
2. Fell apart - the past tense of fall apart = original meaning - break into pieces. But it also means the breaking up off, of a relationship (అసలర్థం: ముక్కలుగా విరిగిపోవడం. కానీ ఇక్కడ దాని అర్థం సంబంధ బాంధ్యవ్యాలు తెగిపోవడం).
a) Ravi: Prabhakar and Bhaskar are very good friends. They are inseparable (ప్రభాకర్‌, భాస్కర్‌ మంచి స్నేహితులు. వాళ్లను విడదీయలేం).
Bhargav: But not anymore. They fell apart over some affair. They are not now on talking terms (ఇప్పుడేం కాదు. ఏదో విషయం మీద వాళ్లకు తేడాలొచ్చాయి. వాళ్లిద్దరూ ఇప్పుడు మాట్లాడుకోవడం లేదు).
b) Doraswamy: What an understanding between our friend and his wife! They are an ideal couple (మన స్నేహితుడికీ, వాళ్లావిడకీ ఎంత అవగాహన! వాళ్లు ఆదర్శ దంపతులు).
Sriram Murthy: Yea. That is really surprising. I don't think there is any chance of their marriage falling apart (అవును, అది నిజంగా ఆశ్చర్యమే. వాళ్ల పెళ్లి వీగిపోతుందనే అవకాశమే లేదు).
3. Glad to see the back of somebody = Happy to see a person go (ఎవరైనా వెళ్లిపోతే సంతోష పడటం, పీడా విరగడైపోయిందని).
a) Rajaram: Gopal doesn't like misers. He is to some extent extravagant, and he hates frugality (గోపాల్‌కు పిసినారులంటే ఇష్టం లేదు. అతను కొంతవరకూ విలాసవంతుడు, అతడికి పొదుపు అంటేనే గిట్టదు).
Srinivas: Oh, is that the reason he was glad to see the back of Balakrishna? Really, he is too much of a saver (అదా కారణం, అతను బాలకృష్ణ వెళ్లిపోతే సంతోషపడటానికి? నిజం చెప్పాలంటే, ఈ బాలకృష్ణ మరీ పిసినారే).
b) Gopi: Are you happy with the guy I introduced to you last night? (నేను నిన్న రాత్రి పరిచయం చేసిన వ్యక్తి నీకు నచ్చాడా?)
Anand: Doesn't he lack manners? I strongly disliked the way he talked. I felt I would be glad to see the back of him as soon as possible (అతనికేమైనా సభ్యత ఉందా? అతను మాట్లాడిన విధానం నాకు అస్సలు నచ్చలేదు. అతను ఎంత త్వరగా వెళ్లిపోతే అంత బాగుండని చాలా కోరుకున్నాను).
