పొరపాటు చేసి, దానికి క్షమాపణ చెప్పే సందర్భం మనకైనా, మన స్నేహితులకైనా వస్తుంటుంది. ఆ పరిస్థితిని సూచించే సముచితమైన వ్యక్తీకరణ ఇంగ్లిష్‌లో ఉంది. ఆ PHRASAL VERB ఏమిటి? అలాగే తిట్టటానికీ, తీవ్రంగా విమర్శించటానికీ మరికొన్ని వ్యక్తీకరణలు ఉపయోగిస్తాం. వీటి గురించి తెలుసుకుందామా?
Anirudh: I called on our friend Bhaskar last evening. I heard his father scolding him for something he had done (నేను నిన్న భాస్కర్‌ను కలవడానికి వాళ్లింటికి వెళ్లాను. వాళ్ల నాన్న అతను చేసిందానికి కేకలేయడం విన్నాను).

Virat: It seems even at the office his father is very temperamental. He lacks self-control (ఆఫీసులో కూడా భాస్కర్‌ వాళ్ల నాన్న రికే కోప్పడుతూ ఉంటాడట. తన మీద అదుపులేదట).
Anirudh: My father is his colleague and, he tells me the same. Sometimes because of his short-tempered nature he has to eat a humble pie (మా నాన్న ఆయన సహోద్యోగి, మా నాన్న కూడా అదే అంటాడు. కొన్నిసార్లు ఆయన సులభంగా కోప్పడటం వల్ల దాని ఫలితాలు అనుభవించి క్షమాపణలు చెప్పుకుంటాడట).
Virat: In spite of his age, he hasn't learned. He has a lot of experience too (అంత వయసుండి కూడా ఆయన నేర్చుకోలేదు. ఆయన అనుభవం కూడా ఎక్కువే).
Anirudh: But very often he tells Bhaskar to mind his 'p's and 'q's. He doesn't need that kind of warning. Bhaskar takes after his mother and is very balanced (కానీ తరచుగా ఆ భాస్కర్‌తో అంటుంటాడట, జాగ్రత్తగా నడుచుకోమని. కానీ భాస్కర్‌కు ఆ హెచ్చరిక అక్కర్లేదు. అతనికి వాళ్లమ్మ పోలిక, చాలా సౌమ్యంగా ప్రవర్తిస్తాడు).
Virat: We must appreciate Bhaskar for his patience. He bears with his father (భాస్కర్‌ ఓర్పుకు మెచ్చుకోవాలి. వాళ్ల నాన్న అతన్ని ఏమైనా భరిస్తాడు).
Now let us look at the expressions in detail
1. Give a talking to = scold / criticize severely (తిట్టడం/ విమర్శించడం).
Venkat: Yesterday the teacher scolded Ramana for no fault of his. It was the boy sitting next to Ramana that made the noise (నిన్న మన టీచర్‌ రమణను ఏ తప్పూ చేయకపోయినా తిట్టాడు. రమణ పక్కన ఉన్నవాడు గొడవ చేశాడు).
Viswam: The teacher is always so. He often barks up the wrong tree. Ramana cried when the teacher gave him a talking to (ఆ టీచర్‌ ఎప్పుడూ అంతే. తప్పు చేయనివాళ్ల మీదనే విరుచుకుపడతాడాయన. పాపం, రమణ ఏడ్చాడు, టీచర్‌ విమర్శించినందుకు).
2. Eat humble pie = Suffer humiliation / suffer the consequences of a mistake and be forced to apologize (అవమానం పాలవడం/ చేసిన పొరపాటుకు క్షమాపణ చెప్పే పరిస్థితి తెచ్చుకోవడం).
Raghav: Ekambaram accused Prasad for no fault of his. Later, of course, he realized he found fault with Prasad wrongly (ఏ తప్పూ చేయకపోయినా ప్రసాద్‌ను ఏకాంబరం తిట్టాడు. తర్వాత తెలుసుకున్నాడు, తాను ఏ తప్పూ చేయని ప్రసాద్‌ను తిట్టాడని).
